Shenandoah, Virginia
Welcome to the website of the Shenandoah River Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. We invite you to visit this website for information regarding our chapter, meetings and activities, our Revolutionary War patriots, and DAR membership.

The Shenandoah River Chapter was organized October 10, 1986 in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia with seventeen charter members and Pearl L. Womack as organizing regent.
The chapter took the name from the beautiful river that flows through the valley and between the towns of Shenandoah and Elkton. The Shenandoah River has been the lifeblood of the Shenandoah Valley throughout our history. Long before our ancestors looked down on the valley and the river that flowed through the land, the sparkling water of the Shenandoah River quenched the thirst of the Native American and the wildlife that sustained them.
The Shenandoah River became a mode of travel for the people and transportation for their industry. The history of the valley grew with the small towns that lined the banks of the Shenandoah River. The water from the river refreshed the people's bodies from the toll of the land and their souls through its beauty. Just as the river was an important part of the history of our communities, it remains an important aspect of our futures.
The valley took its name from the beautiful river that flowed through it which the Native Americans called "Daughter of the Stars" and we Daughters proudly bear the name - SHENANDOAH RIVER CHAPTER, NSDAR.
